Religion or Farce?

via Daily Prompt: Farce

India, a spiritual hub of the world since ancient times, is loosing touch with its deeply rooted philosophical and religious traditions. A country whose religion and philosophy evolved as an enquiry into the  mysteries that lay beyond life and death, is quickly descending into the abyss of materialistic superstitions.

The people of the country who once opened their lands for everyone and accepted each new and different way of life, are now fragmenting and fighting over seemingly “important” religious issues. Hinduism which is considered as the world’s oldest philosophical and spiritual systems has become a Farce of “Cow worships” and impractical rituals and practices.

The face of the modern Hinduism has changed so much that now it has no resemblance whatsoever with the ancient science of soul that delved in the depths of consciousness. True, Indian philosophy has never been static and has changed time to time to incorporate new ideas and thoughts. But the “philosophy” that we see today defies all ancient logic and perturbs the very essence of tolerance and acceptance.

Indian philosophical discipline lay in the control of the emotions and desires, in attaining wisdom and in humble and simple aspirations. This thought was reflected in the all the different philosophies that evolved in India like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc.

It’s time for the “Preachers” of Indian philosophy to actually study what they pretend to be masters at. The common people too should exercise control and logically follow their religion. It will take time and many radical changes before we go back to the amazing humans that we were. But the change will come and maybe then we all can be just in our pride for our religion.

“I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world tolerance and universal acceptance .. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true.”
– Swami Vivekananda at Parliament of world Religions in Chicago 1893.

Let’s strive for a tolerant India and World!

Om, May all attain peace, May all be healthy
May all enjoy good fortune, May none suffer misery and sorrow.
OM Peace Peace Peace !!

  1. I’m in love with Indian culture for as long as I remember. I think I was Indian in a previous life. I love the dress, the beauty, the food! It’s such a shame that religious beliefs cause so much war and pain. When it’s the one thing that should unite us.
Why can’t everyone just accept that we all believe in different things? My family have mixed beliefs and we don’t all follow the same religion. Do we fight about? Do we hate each other? No! We’re all too busy living our lives the best we can.
    Very interesting post.
